Ack! Ack! Ack! "Mi pobre ciudad" | Laredo, Una Bola de Tontos and other Horrifying Revelations!
That's all Laredo, Texas, my hometown, needs: MORE Bad Press--hit the story from Portfolio.com by tapping the image above for the details!
Here's the dispatch from my friend Marc García-Mártinez, profe at Allan Hancock College:
From: Marc García-Martínez
Subject: hey smarty-pants Tejano!

Hola Bill...what does Laredo, Texas have in common with other cities like Merced, Fresno, and Bakersfield? According to a new study, it's one of the least-brainiest (read: not that smart) cities in the nation. I'm forced to wonder about the Latino/a demographic in these cities, and which 'behind-the-measures' measures these pseudo-scientific pendejos who compile the list may be directly/indirectly applying. Check out the links: one, two, three.
love, M

Breaking News: Latina Starlet Coupled with Sexual Metaphorics.... #1,793,242 in a Series | Eva Mendes
original posting 8/8/08 | updated (video fix), 12/04/10

The fusion of Tex[t]-Mextian and eyegienic forces at work in Mendes's latest career move are noteworthy. Pushing the envelope of U.S. prudery, Mendes's natural assets coupled with designer Fabian Bond's camera nets viewers a next-generation meditation on the nature and consumption of desire.

Lalo Alcaraz! Sunday Funnies...
I get SO tired of the San Diego Union-Tribune's ongoing effort to shrink the Sunday comics (out of existence, almost), that I've decided to scan one of Lalo Alcaraz's weekend efforts and blow it up to the Windsor McCay-proportions it deserves. The scan messed up the color, but it's nice to admire Lalo's wit on the 'big screen'.
Here's how it looks online...
