Chronicle of a Dance Foretold-watch... Gabriel Garcia Marquez Cutting some rug

And his lips don't lie either. Here he is at a Shakira concert. Seems the Premio Nobel doesn't weigh him down. Watch as he smooths the dance floor to some Colombian rhythms.

Harry Potter, Chicano: Xicanosmosis, Half-Blood Princes, and the Mestizaje

While I am not ready to publish a book on it, I do want it recorded in the annals of the internet the following hunch regarding the popularity of Harry Potter.  Our half-blood prince is Chicano--the winsome lad is a mestizo: half-blooded, mixed-breeded, mutt-formed Xicano.   Do I have the proof of this!? Yes.

Forthcoming in Eyegiene: Permutations of Subjectivity in the Televisual Age of Sex and Race with UT Press.

For those cannot wait, here's part of the script with mestizaje-laced passages:

Chikle.com

Just a quick December link to Chikle.com--a San Diego graphics art phenom, Chikle's xicanosmotic semiotic wonders are a gift to the eyes; a chapter in my upcoming book Eyegiene, for UT Press, writes about artists including Chikle and Izel Vargas, next-generation Chicana/o arts shamans whose canvases pulse with a vibe that marries more traditional plastic arts like painting, illustration, and silk-screening with the vibrant and electric pace of itunes and youtube.  Click the image to hit Chikle's online gallery.

At the recent MEXTASY gallery show in McAllen, a visitor came up and handed me some old issues of El Sol--a Mexican American activist publication from the 1970s.

I promised to scan and distribute it online--help spread the word about this resource.
