Price Drop
The evil demons that manipulate prices at Amazon.com have seen fit to drop the price of Tex[t]-Mex: Seductive Hallucination of the "Mexican" in America to $15.61.
If you don't have a copy yet, then pick one up and write me and tell me what you think! Órale!

Chicanodom is witnessing a positive perfect storm what with the reconciliation of Cheech and Chong AND Rage Against the Machine! Here's a posting (thanks to Cory at BoingBoing) of Rage's latest a capella agitation!

Grace Jones, Corporate Cannibal
Is Grace Jones's new video "Corporate Cannibal" an indictment of capitalism? an evocation of female desire? a deconstruction of blackness? You be the judge!

Another Unintended Omission from Tex[t]-Mex: María Móntez
I just have time today to throw out a link to an earlier post this year at another site featuring the sights and sounds of María Móntez, aka María África Gracia Vidal, another unfortunate omission from the pages of Tex[t]-Mex. More research looms in the near future!

Mark Dery's Back in La Casa: The Closer/Tijuana Brass
Mark Dery writes in to draw our eyes to a Turner TNT "treat" episode of THE CLOSER! Here's his sage rant
>>“Tijuana Brass” – Premieres Monday, Sept. 8, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) – TV-14-V
The bodies of two Tijuana police officers are found in the back of a stolen pickup truck, and all the evidence points towards an FBI informant as the prime suspect. Complicating matters, a newspaper story by Ricardo Ramos paints an extremely unflattering picture of Priority Homicide, a public relations nightmare that’s going to require some fancy footwork by Pope, Taylor and Brenda to set right.<<
Yes, that would "complicate" matters. Because the narco butchery of a couple of cops isn't nearly complicated enough, from a couch potato's-eye view. What's a little threat to civil society compared to a public-relations nightmare? What's an extremely unflattering spectacle of brute violence and the near-total breakdown of social control compared to an extremely unflattering picture? Where's Baudrillard when you need him?
The theme-parking of social pathologies: a growth industry, in el otro lado.

Speedy Ghost to Town: A Speedy Gonzales Cartoon from 1967
As I hint at in Tex[t]-Mex, Speedy Gonzales animated features had de-volved in the late 1960s into poorly animated, half-ass scripted balls of nonsense; many of these later animated shorts feature Daffy Duck, of all characters, as Speedy's foil.
It turns out these sub-neanderthal "classics" are all the rage in China of all places--where I found a link to "Speedy Ghost to Town" and many others. Hit the image below to access the streaming video.
