When Mexicans See "Africans" (or Afro-Mexicans) or.... | Another short chapter in the history of racialized representation in the Americas

The producer of my recent Mextasy show (he who shall not be named) sent along the following Aunt Jemima, Mexico-style, video to me along with a suggestion that I write about Mexican constructions of race. I, el flojo, begged off, saying I had enough to do monitoring Uncle Sam's various and sundry wet and dry dreams and nightmares of "Mexicans" in America.

But I am not so lazy I cannot share a video. Brace for it!

{hit the image to the right for an amazing old Aunt Jemima pancake ad; more here.

Morpheus is in the house! (or the planet)...Pedro Parquero resurrected! (well, kinda'): Mestizaje raises its head in current comic books and film

Follow this link here to a report from Newsarama on Africano actor Lawrence Fishburne's upcoming role as the fairly caucasoidal (and double entendre-d) Perry White in director Zack Snyder's forthcoming film release Superman—Man of Steel.

And this link here to an honest Newsarama essay on race, culture, and Marvel Comics' new Spiderman—a half-Ethiopian, half-Mexican teenager by the name of Miles Morales ("my mestizaje sense is tingling").

Bimbo's Negritos! Another Chapter in the History of Racialized Representation in the Americas...

Ace Boston-based Tex[t]-Mex Galleryblog detective (and sugary treats sampler) Daphne Strassmann writes in with a tip to a Guanabee post that muses (a wee-bit snarkily) about Bimbo breads of Mexico's odd little confection. Hit the product for the linkaso.

Here's a recent blog-based meditation on the same from theRoot.
