The Department of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University, literature.sdsu.edu

Although I am utterly biased, especially since I got elected as Chair, I would have to say that the Department of English and Comparative Literature at SDSU is one of the best West Coast literature departments I have run across. One of the things I am most proud of, and something I have been webmastering since I was using Mosaic 1.3 (eventually using Netscape Communicator's built-in editing machine to author) is the Department's main website. Say what you will, but it just is not your grandfather's English department webpage. (Ole Miss, you know what I am talking about!)
After two months offline to bring it up to ADA standards, I am happy to say the neon excess and garish logic of the original page is back online. Hit the image above and check it out! When you get there, wave your mouse over the bard to wake him up!

Naked Mirrors, Fractured Souls

My TA this semester is a rad graduate student in our program, Kevin Gossett. When he's not researching literature, Gossett hangs his hat with the Ex-Friends, an amazing local band--if you see them listed in City Beat or the Reader, go check them out! Their next show is on the 25th of September at the Beauty Bar.

Tomorrow the lid comes off of our semester-long adventure! Wish us luck.

literature.sdsu.edu, the Virtual Version of the Department of English and Comparative Literature, SDSU
When I am not out spelunking the cosmos in search of semiotic intrigue and the nefarious doings of stereotypes, I am the Chair of the Department of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University--in my view, the best damned department of literature on the West Coast!Calm down USC, relax Stanford, ease-up Berkeley, down-down Huskies!!!
We celebrated commencement yesterday, the first with me in the cockpit as Chair. To say there was turbulence is putting it mildly as rare Spring storms in SoCal made for havoc--at the last minute our 750+ croud was shunted inside to a 500-seat auditorium. Can you say chaos? Angry familia? It all turned out ok with commencement speaker Oliver Mayer, from USC Theatre, nailing a hard and down graduation address.
Here's a little slide-show we put together to close the show for graduates and their families--it gives a nice visual/aural review of the cool things going down on Montezuma Mesa in San Diego. If you are thinking of graduate school and just not sure about the Ph.d., you should come check us out; and if you are an undergraduate who loves literature and cultural studies and is dissatisfied with your present digs, transferring into to SDSU is still a relative piece of cake.
